While she has made a few "attempts" toward Lucrecia, she now understands the limits and does not do this. Schala - Patchouli is completely in love with Schala, one of her teachers. Amy - Patchouli had attempted to make friends with Amy long before, but that didn't work. Similarly, Patchouli regards Amy's inability to communicate well very little and considers Amy an idiot. She will not speak with her and silently demands the same of Amy. Chances are Patchouli might try to kill her if she talks to her. Anita - Patchouli regards Anita as amusing, glad to have her as a friend. She will speak to Anita at any opportunity given. I-no - I-no was the first person to speak to Patchy, who also offered her favors when they first met. Patchouli never forgets them, and probably wants more, but gradually has been seeing her as more of a person. { see my shadow changing }(to be added) { i want to feel the change consume me }Patchouli can most easily be described as antisocial, and that wouldn't be a poor summary of her attitude for about half of all time. No matter what she's doing, and how much she says she's enjoying it, one can tell that she'd rather be alone, reading a book. However, she's not completely closed to the presence of another, particularly if she's deemed them friendly. Typically, though, she won't stay near a person long enough to determine if they're friendly or not. Patchouli, however, is not aggressively anti-social. Despite the great array of magic she has she won't be blasting people to ash for talking to her. She's a bit weakly and passive for that. Despite her somewhat weak personality, though, she's not one to cry easily, and she's certainly not weak enough to never give a sardonic retort; in fact, she's actually quite good at that. She tries to be more logical than emotional, and claims to not understand emotions, but she actually tends to be more emotional than logical almost all the time. In the times when she is not antisocial, she will typically speak... somewhat loquaciously, acting quite friendly as if to intentionally balance her previous antisocial behavior. Of course, it typically doesn't seem fake, and it really isn't fake, but some might see it as being fake. Her self-esteem is somewhat poor, regardless of mood, probably because she's physically somewhat weak. However, she knows very well what she's capable of. She doesn't tend to try to push herself any further. { do what it takes to get through }It all started a few years ago... Isn't that a typical beginning? Patchouli Knowledge was the daughter of a family of humans skilled in magic; however, in order to avoid detection by the others in the village from whence the Knowledge family hailed, she had to be sent away. The child was given to the Scarlet family in the city of Gensokyo. The Scarlet family was a very rich and powerful family who controlled most of the city. There were only two of them left, however, both of whom were perpetually frozen at age twenty-nine, though both well exceeded the age of one hundred; the older was named Remilia, the younger Flandre. Under them served a young maid named Sakuya Izayoi, as well as a young girl named Koakuma; the perpetual lolita was to watch over Patchouli, named so by Flandre. Patchouli was raised surrounded by women - a staggering percentage of the population of Gensokyo was female; she had been exposed to lesbianism at a very young age. The Scarlet family didn't mind this at all; they were all like that, too, after all. Patchouli had been raised in the library, since Koakuma was forced to sleep there, a somewhat maligned creature. Patchouli had been surrounded by books all her life, and so learned quickly. By the time she was of age to go to school, she was well ahead of others her age, so much so that the Scarlet family just kept letting Patchouli learned from the books in the library - of course, this didn't filter anything that Patchouli learned, something which Remilia and Flandre clearly noticed. By this age, also, her magic became quite manifest. By age thirteen, Patchouli was asked to serve as the librarian of the Scarlet Mansion, since she seemed to like it so much. Naturally, Patchouli accepted - of course she was mostly forced to accept, but that's not the point. Patchouli served as the librarian in the Scarlet Mansion for the next nine years. All the while she read everything she could, vastly expanding her knowlege of every subject she could; she loved that library and never planned on leaving it, if she could help it. At the same time, of course, she took quite a warm interest in Sakuya Izayoi, the maid, which Remilia was not pleased about, but which amused the maid, who was a bit older than Patchouli, but who had suffered from the same "frozen-in-time" syndrome that the Scarlet sisters did when she reached age twenty-nine. Patchouli also served to defend the library's large collection of obscure volumes. She would bind thieves with magical threads, then leave them for the Scarlet family to dispose of. One continued to appear repeatedly, despite being removed several times. Her name was Marisa Kirisame. She was fairly young, around Patchouli's age; she quickly took a warm interest in the guardian of the library. Patchouli really didn't like this feature of the girl's personality, since it made her job difficult, since every time she tied the theif up, she would consider it some sort of perverse bondage game of some sort, which irked Patchouli who was gradually shedding her sexual attitudes of the past, meantime the little thief was acting just the opposite. Patchouli really wanted to leave at this point, though, at the same time, she wanted to stay. She knew that Remilia wouldn't allow it, anyway. Even then, how would she get out? Gensokyo was sealed in such a way that one could enter... but one could not leave. Those who lived in the area had been considered by outsiders to be absolutely dangerous, sinful, corruptive, and really all sorts of things which make most "sane persons" want to DIE. Therefore, Patchouli couldn't exactly get out without tearing open a rift, something she really couldn't do. She came many times, over many years. Patchouli was quite annoyed by her consistent presence, and often wished she'd just disappear. In a way, her wish was granted by some perverse means. When removing another thief, she accidentally tore open a portal to another land. It began to pull, dragging her, and later the victim, in, while she helplessly pondered how she did that. She knew not where she was going, and by the time she sealed it... ...she'd been taken away to another place. | |||||||||
